New Jerusalem and Zion Lutheran (Lovettsville, VA)
On Sunday December 17, HS youth from New Jerusalem and Zion Lutheran churches joined together to pack 12 food boxes for the needy in our community.
These boxes are specifically targeted to families whose children typically receive free breakfast and lunch at their school. The boxes of food will be distributed to the families by the Loudoun Public Schools resource officer Pam Hayba. This preserves the dignity of the families as the children probably attend school with our youth. The youth are getting together on Saturday, 12/22 to shop for replacement food for the food pantry using Thrivent funds set aside for Caring in the Community. We will also be requesting donations of non-perishable items from the congregations.
It is well publicized in the media that Loudoun is among the most affluent counties in the country. It is an eye-opening experience when our youth are confronted with the reality that need is all around them. It is also a blessing that we have the ability to tangibly assist in meeting some of those needs.
