Shema 2008 Registration Information

Our theme this year is Walking Wet through which we will explore what it means to live as a baptized child of God.

SHEMA will be held Sunday afternoon, April 20, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Lutheran Church of the Abiding Presence, Burke, VA.

SHEMA will provide a wonderful opportunity for your upper elementary youth to join with other Lutheran youth outside of their home congregation for an afternoon of faith-forming activities, fellowship, food and fun! Activities may include storytelling, music, worship, games, a service project, craft, and a snack.

Enclosed is a registration form for your congregation. Please note the following:

• The event is open to youth in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.
• One adult is needed for every five (5) youth. This adult is expected to remain onsite and to assist, when asked and where possible, with the activities.
• The event will cost $10 per participant. A congregation check – made out to Metro Washington, DC Synod – SHEMA 2008 – must accompany the Congregation Registration Form.
• The registration deadline is April 6, 2008. The maximum capacity of this event is 200.

• The Adult in Charge from each congregation is responsible for bringing the Youth and Adult registration forms to the event.

As with other synod youth events, expectations of participants for the event include:

• All registrants – youth and adults – will participate fully in all activities at the event.
• Participants are expected to respect the property of others and of the event site, to clean up after themselves, and if responsible for damage, to pay for it.
• No alcohol, weapons, tobacco, or drugs (other than prescribed medication) will be brought to or used at the event.
• iPods, electronic games, etc. will not be brought to the event; cell phones will be used for emergencies only.

• Lutherans throughout Metro DC will be proud of the way in which our community represented them.
