General Responsibilities
The Minister of Youth Ministries is the primary staff person responsible for the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of the Youth Ministry program at Emmanuel Lutheran. The Minister will strive to involve the youth fully in the life of the congregation in ways that strengthen their relationships with God, their peers, their parents and the church as a whole. The Minister will encourage and empower Emmanuel’s youth to be more effective Christian witnesses in today’s world.
Reporting Relationship
The Minister of Youth Ministries is administratively responsible to the Senior Pastor and is functionally responsible to the Pastor overseeing youth ministry and the Youth Committee Chairperson.
Compensation
The position is part-time paid on an hourly basis. Emmanuel Lutheran will provide compensation as outlined in the budget for the fiscal year. Specific salary will be reviewed annually in accordance with the Annual Review Program for Salaried Staff. Longevity of service and standard of performance are considerations in compensation planning.
Qualifications
College degree with prior experience in youth ministry, with sound theological training and/or 3-5 years experience directing youth ministry in a congregation.
Work Schedule
The work schedule is flexible but must include both day and evening hours to allow for various youth activities and consultation with Pastors, other church staff, and youth leadership.
Specific Duties
- Develop, organize and coordinate an integrated youth program for age groups ranging from elementary school through post-secondary education.
- Stimulate and direct Emmanuel’s youth to equip them for their ministry in church and society through activities such as:
- Regularly scheduled youth meetings
- Regular Bible studies and discussions
- Outside activities – retreats, camping programs, trips, and service projects
- Fund raising activities
- Inter-generational events.
- Participate in the preparation of the youth for Confirmation of their Faith.
- Further the youth of Emmanuel’s spiritual growth by helping them deal with social, cultural, and moral issues from a Christian perspective.
- Identify, in conjunction with the pastors, problems that require referral to professional counseling.
- Maintain congregational awareness and support for youth ministry through reports, publications, and communication tools and technologies.
- Recruit, train, supervise and support adult sponsors and youth mentors.
- Provide access to and representation at youth activities at the synod, region and church-wide level.
- Develop youth ministry policies and practices in conjunction with the Senior Pastor, the Youth Ministry Committee and the Congregation Council. Serve as the primary resource person for the Youth Ministry Committee and help coordinate Youth Ministry programs with other committees, as appropriate.
- Attend staff meetings and other staff functions required of church staff persons, such as retreats and Congregational meetings.
The program will include goal-setting, long-range planning, evaluation, budget preparation and management.
