Shekinah 2012 Registration
It is time to register for Shekinah 2012, the Metro DC Synod Youth weekend retreat for 7th and 8th graders.
This year’s retreat will be March 16-18, 2012 and is again being held at the 4H Center in Front Royal, VA.
Shekinah provides opportunities for learning, growing in faith, worshipping, meeting new people and renewing old friendships – and having fun with other youth just like themselves outside of their home congregation.
Our theme this year is Imago Dei / Image of God. We will look at what it means to have been created as the image, the likeness, of God.

Congregation Leaders are responsible for checking to see that individual registration forms are signed by the participant (and, for youth, by a parent) and that they contain medical insurance information – please ensure that they are complete before mailing them in to the Registrar.
Please note the following:
- The event is open to youth currently in 7th and 8th grades; exceptions are available for 6th and 9th graders who are
fully integrated into your Confirmation ministry. - The event cost is $125 per participant. NEW: If youth in your congregation have financial needs that your congregation cannot fully cover, financial assistance may be available to assist with up to 1/3 of the cost. Please contact Barbara Harner by Jan 23 for information / application form. Congregations can donate to this fund.
- The registration deadline is February 15, 2012. Late registrations will be accepted, on a space available basis, at a higher registration fee ($150) until February 29.
- Registration is on a first-come, first-registered basis. Once capacity is reached, registration will close.
- Please remember to bring a Bible!

NOTE: You can submit a completed Congregation Registration Form by email attachment (Congregation name, adult
contact information, participant name, grade, gender and t-shirt size) to meet the Registration deadline.
Hard copies of all Registration Forms – Congregation, Youth and Adult – and payment must be received by February 29; there will be no refunds after this date. Requests for additions after February 15 must be confirmed in writing with the Registrar based on space availability. There are no walk-in registrations.
This weekend is all about helping participants grow in their faith. Because we know faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal trusted relationships with affirming, available and authentic adults, everyone will be assigned to a Small Group, consisting of 8-10 youth and 2 adults.
Event evaluations consistently name the SG experience as the most powerful aspect of the weekend.
Adults will serve as SG Facilitators or Co-Facilitators and should indicate on their registration form whether they are comfortable facilitating on their own or if they would like to share the responsibility with another adult, working as co-facilitators.
Reminder: All adults attending must have a Background Check on file with the synod office. If needed, please
download the form from our website. Complete the form and send it in to the synod office.
